Most people connect Toastmasters with public speaking, and that is part of what we do. Even with that, however, the main point is to encourage you; to let you know what you’re already doing well and give you suggestions on how you could do other things better. Some folks are better at it than others, but everyone – EVERYONE!!! – has room to grow.
Where we have the most fun at our meetings, however, is with something called “Table Topics” – short, impromptu responses to questions – often silly or creative questions. Your answer doesn’t even have to be true; it just has to be quick. What better way to get better at “thinking on your feet” than a fun exercise? And we’ll let you in on a secret – it even works when you just listen because your mind starts working on an answer even if you’re not the one responding.
After all, what do you have to lose except your fear of speaking?
